 Teaching Methods

DMLES Elementary School has many learning methods each teacher has their own learning method. While there I observed the learning methods of 5th and 6th grade students in English, I observed my mentors teaching, my mentors were 5th grade teacher ma'am Mary Altess Pagayon and 6th grade teacher ma'am Ailyn Arellano Beldia, they are both great teachers.

The method used by my mentors, ma'am Altes and ma'am Ailyn, is a cooperative learning method, students are asked to think critically, the tasks given to students are individual tasks and group tasks, students are taught how to work well together, what to do when doing group work, this can train student cohesiveness, teach how to work together properly and correctly from an early age.

Here are my mentor's steps when teaching:

·         Opening the class by praying together

·         Disciplining the class and asking how the students are doing

·         Checking student attendance

·         Provide motivation before starting the lesson

·         Develop Mental Activities

·         Teacher presents the material to be taught

·         Teacher gives feedback to students to test student understanding

·       After students understand, the teacher will give activity questions to test students' understanding of the material that has been taught.

·         The first activity is usually done individually

·      The second activity is done in groups, group activities are carried out to teach students how to work well together.

·         The teacher also gives application to students

·         Closure/Generalization

·         Assessment/Evaluation

·         Assignment

·         The teacher leaves the class and the students say thank you to the teacher.

Learning Material and Inovation

I made an observation in grade 5 SSC (Special Science Class) the material taught at that time was Affix, the teacher explained the meaning of Affix and then the teacher also explained the kinds of Affix such as Prefix and Suffix, the teacher also explained what Prefix is and what Suffix is. The teacher gave assignments to students to add Prefix or Suffix words in a sentence and the teacher also gave assignments to choose which words are Prefix and which words are Suffix.

Learning Resources and Technology

In Dmless from grades 1-5 have SSC (Special Science Class), and for grade 6 will be SSC classes next year. Learning resources are books and modules provided directly by DepED (Department Of Education), there are two books, namely books for teachers and books for students, the media used by teachers are TVs, each class has a TV, the teacher will present the material through the TV screen and the teacher can also display videos, but there are several classes whose TVs are broken, if the teacher will teach in a class whose TV is broken the teacher will make the material and then print it on large paper to present the material in front of the students.

Authentic Assessment

In 1 year there are 4 periods so there are 4 periodic exams in one school year. For daily assessment of the practice questions given by the teacher to students after explaining the material the teacher will ask students to do questions related to the material, practice questions are also to measure students' understanding of the material that has been conveyed, after doing the practice questions students are asked to exchange them with friends beside them then the teacher and students will review them together.
