Procedures Of Teaching
This is my first time teaching in an overseas elementary school, I feel very nervous every time I practice I always calm myself so that when teaching I am not nervous, I teach 5th grade students, namely SSC class, the students there are also very smart, polite, and sweet, I really like them.
Their curiosity is very high and they always ask questions about Indonesia. They always greeted me and every time I entered their class, they were always enthusiastic it made me feel very welcome and I also really liked them, I will never forget this experience.
Before starting the teaching practice my coordinators ma'am Altess and ma'am Ailyn prepared the classroom that would be used, they always encouraged me not to be nervous, I followed the steps that my mentor usually used during teaching and the time was 60 minutes.
I open the class with prayer and then check attendance after that I provide motivation, during my democratic final I invite students to sing and dance together for motivation before starting learning, the song is related to the learning material, namely about Adjectives.
Activity sequence of my teaching practice:
1. Opening the class by praying together
2. Disciplining the class and asking how the students are doing
3. Checking student attendance
4. Provide motivation before starting the lesson
5. Develop Mental Activities
6. Teacher presents the material to be taught
7. Teacher gives feedback to students to test student understanding
8. After students understand, the teacher will give activity questions to test students' understanding of the material that has been taught.
9. The first activity is usually done individually
10. The second activity is done in groups, group activities are carried out to teach students how to work well together.
11. The teacher also gives application to students
12. Closure/Generalization
13. Assessment/Evaluation
14. Assignment
15. The teacher leaves the class and the students say thank you to the teacher.
Time management and organizing activities
I taught for 60 minutes, here I share the time during teaching:
1. Opening activities : 10 minutes (prayer, greetings, motivation)
2. Core Activity : 25 minutes
3. Students work on activity 1 : 5 minutes
4. Students work on group activity : 10 minutes
5. Aplication : 5 minutes
6. Closure /Generalization, assessmnet/Evaluation, and closing: 5 minutes
Classroom Management
I teach in class 5 ssc, students in class 5 ssc are smart, each student has their own characteristics and uniqueness, this makes the class more colorful, I have no difficulty in managing them because they are obedient students, they listen to the teacher very seriously when the teacher explains the material, when I give assignments to students they also work quickly and on time. When the students are working on their assignments I will go around the class to check the students' work, after completing the task they will exchange answers with the friend next to them and then we will check the answers together.
Problem Solving
There were not so many challenges when I was teaching because the SSC 5th graders are very smart they easily understood the material I conveyed, the only problem I faced was when making lesson plans because this was my first time making Filipino-based lesson plans of course this was a challenge for me but this did not become so difficult because my mentor and buddy really helped me in this matter
I hope that after participating in the SEA Teacher Program I should be more able to improve my teaching skills from this program I can learn methods and learning systems from other countries, especially from the Philippines.
